Enthusiasms
enthusiasm, n. intense and lively interest; passionate zeal; possession by a god, inspiration or religious exaltation (obs); religious extravagance (obs).
Something, then, that makes you feel full of something that is divine, that gives you an energy that can only come from God.
These are some of my enthusiasms, and links to stuff about them.
- God
- What could be better for us to be passionate about? Sadly, a
web search for ‘God’ yields very disappointing results,
from the totally crazy to the disgusting. John Drane told a story
(at the Oxford Diocesan Convention, July 2002) about asking some
porters who had been helping move his thousands of books, what he
should say to the assembled church leaders at the Scottish
Ecumenical Assembly. One of them told him, “I think you
should tell them to talk to people about God.”
If more Christians were doing that, there might be better material about God on the Internet.
In the mean time, the best we can probably do is provide a link to Beliefnet - Reading
- Yes, a passion if ever there was. Flaubert said, “Read in order to live.”
- Computers
- Who could resist the sheer power of pressing a button and having things happen? If only it always worked liked that...
- Storytelling
- You'll have guessed that by now, if you've been paying attention.
- Films
- Just love 'em. Don't know why. Can't help it.
- The Internet
- One of my projects is to write an article about how the World Wide Web is a kind of icon of God. The first attempt at it is God and the Web, an article in the Marston Times, October 2002.
- Food and Drink
- Too bad I'm told we're on a diet since getting home from our holiday.
- Lifelong Learning
- I read a reference about someone that said `Lifelong learning is her idea of a good time'. Yay! Couldn't agree more. And she was no geek, neither.
- Tai Chi
- Mind, body and spirit in perfect harmony. Well, one day. Soon (-ish)
