I’ve been struggling to fight off a nasty flu-y cold, and have spent much of the last few days in bed, so I missed yesterday’s Deanery Quiet Morning on prayer, led by the Bishop.
Just as well, really, because I would probably have been thrown out for giggling during the act of worship. This had the assembled pray-ers joining in a version of the General Thanksgiving which included the line:
“We thin unworthy servants do give them most humble and hearty thanks.”
In case you think this was only the result of being subjected to a spellchecker innocent of 17th century English forms, it also included the popular modern worship song by Graham Kendrick: From heave you came, helpless babe.
